The MMA Forums - What kind of styles have you trained in?

Cliff McCarphy- Martial Arts, Grappling , Taekwondo and a bit of everything else.

The MMA Forums - So your an all around fighter would you say?

Cliff McCarphy- Yeah.

The MMA Forums - Are you an Orthodox fighter or a SouthPaw?

Cliff McCarphy- I can fight as both and switch during a fight, through my opponents off when I want.

The MMA Forums - OK, so can you tell the readers a bit about yourself, where you come from and how got into fighting?

Cliff McCarphy- I got into Martial Arts first, there was a lot of racism around when I was younger and so taught myself how to fight so that I didn't have to use weapons. From there I went to prison for a while and started weight training whilst there, came out that's when I started entering Body Building shows. Entered the Mr Universe first time out and came 9th out of 22 competitors, won the EFBB Intermediates, Warrington 1st place, Blackpool 3rd, Mansfield, I won that, Leeds 2nd, oh I've done a lot.

The MMA Forums - That's an awesome record. So where are you training right now?

Cliff McCarphy- I'm at World Physiques in Mansfield for my weights routine and I've started to include a lot more Martial Arts and Cardio work recently. I have a lot of great sparring partners to train with.

The MMA Forums - What's your typical weekly training routine?

Cliff McCarphy- Monday I do legs. Tuesday is shoulders and triceps, Wednesday isa rest day, Thursday chest and biceps, Friday back and calves and then weekends off.

The MMA Forums - And what type of Martial Arts training?

Cliff McCarphy- I've done a range of Martial Arts and for a long time now and they will never leave me, more recently I've been working on my cardio fitness and flexibility a lot.

The MMA Forums - Clearly you carry a large amount of muscle mass, can you tell the readers what kind of a diet you follow.

Cliff McCarphy- I eat a lot of chicken and rice, pasta and sweetcorn with tuna, I don't eat a lot of red meat because it takes a long time for the body to digest it, perhaps once a month, so mainly your poultry and white meats.

The MMA Forums - How many meals a day does all that work out at?

Cliff McCarphy- Well I've picked it up and am eating 8 meals a day right now

The MMA Forums - Is that because your trying to gain size?

Cliff -McCarphy No, that's just to do with my routine because now that I'm doing much more sparring, I need much more food.

The MMA Forums - Do you use any types of supplements at all?

Cliff McCarphy- I just take cod liver oil, zinc tablets and multivitamins which help me to keep my stomach clean so I can digest all the food.

The MMA Forums - Have you fought in any tournaments before?

Cliff McCarphy- Well this is my first MMA fight, but I've fought in a lot of Tae kwon do tournaments before but to do with Cage Fighting, no.

The MMA Forums - Can you tell us about the tae kwon do.

Cliff McCarphy- Taekwondo is mainly just 'go in there and damage 'em'. Grappling is not the way I usually fight, I like to use my knees and elbows much more. Working as a Doorman you can't afford to be on the floor as that's where you get damaged, so I'm mainly a stand up guy, but if I have to I will.

The MMA Forums - That's an awesome record. So where are you training right now?

Cliff McCarphy - I'm at World Physiques in Mansfield for my weights routine and I've started to include a lot more Martial Arts and Cardio work recently. I have a lot of great sparring partners to train with.

The MMA Forums - What's your typical weekly training routine?

Cliff McCarphy - Monday I do legs. Tuesday is shoulders and triceps, Wednesday isa rest day, Thursday chest and biceps, Friday back and calves and then weekends off.

The MMA Forums - OK, now your going to be fighting in Ultimate Force 6 event on July 21st in Doncaster, do you know who your opponent will be yet?

Cliff McCarphy - No not yet but I should be find out in the next day or to. I want to get the low down on him first.

The MMA Forums -Does who it is concern you at all?

Cliff McCarphy - (laughs) No not really, I just don't care. I wouldn't be a doorman if I did.

The MMA Forums - As you say, you've worked in security for a long time. Do you think this will help you with any pre-fight nerves at all?

Cliff McCarphy - Yeah I think so, because for instance we've had it when it's kicked off with 20 lads and there's only been four doormen and we've stood side by side and sorted the situation out as best as possible.

The MMA Forums - What kind of fighters do you think you match up well against?

Cliff McCarphy - Someone the same as me, the smaller guys try to get in underneath me and I typically end up kneeing and elbowing them. In normal boxing I wouldn't be allowed to do any of that and they would be getting underneath, but in the cage I can 'bang bang'. *Cliff start throwing strikes making the interviewer nervous, Cliff laughs*.

The MMA Forums - How do you see the fight going on the 21st?

Cliff McCarphy - I really don't care, I'll just take it as it comes.

The MMA Forums - Is this a one time deal for you or can we expect to see you in the cage more often?

Cliff McCarphy - I don't know, let's just get the first one out the way first. Like my first Body Building show, I went out to win and I knew what I was up against and the format of how these things worked. This is a whole new ball game so I'm just gonna see what occurs on the 21st. I might even get beaten, which I doubt *laughs*, but there's always the possibility, depends how quick he is and how much power he's got.

The MMA Forums - Can you just tell us about how you got into Door work?

Cliff McCarphy - Yeah well I'm a qualified Welder but after being in prison and starting to train I decided it was something I might try, and that was that.

The MMA Forums - Have you got any funny stories about working the doors?

Cliff McCarphy - *laughs* Oh no no, I'm not telling anything about them.

The MMA Forums - Any scary stories?

Cliff McCarphy - Oh there's a few, but I keep them to myself. OK?

The MMA Forums - *yes*. Would you be interested in entering any boxing matches in the future?

Cliff McCarphy - Well as I say, lets get the 21st dealt with and then we'll move on from there. It's different when you get sponsored and you can spend a lot more of your time on your training. Right now I'm working to pay for my house, food, training and everything else I do.

The MMA Forums - Now, your a well known personality from the East Midlands and there's going to be a lot of your supporters at the show. Have you got anything to say to all your fans out there?

Cliff McCarphy - Just be there for me, and that's all I'm gonna say.

The MMA Forums - Thanks very much Cliff and best of luck in your fight.

Cliff McCarphy - My pleasure.
